A structured awareness campaign should be launched to educate commuters on the new e-ticketing system, says IT professional Mohammed Nafeez.
In an interview with this newspaper this week, Mr Nafeez said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) should take a role on this, its benefits and proper usage.
“This campaign aims to ensure that users understand how to make the most of the system,” Mr Nafeez said.
“In addition, mandatory training will be implemented for bus drivers and other public service vehicle operators.
“This training will be delivered through the e-ticketing infrastructure service provider or authorised TVET institutions, ensuring that all involved parties comply with the system and operate it efficiently.”
He said one major challenge in the public transport sector was the continued acceptance of cash payments by drivers, leading to revenue leakages and tax evasion.
