A 14-member squad for the Fiji senior women’s cricket team has been named for the Four Nations Tournament T20i Series which will be hosted by Cricket France in New Caledonia next month.

The team has been selected from players who participated in the East-West cricket tourney in Denarau, Nadi a fortnight ago.

Cricket Fiji CEO Sitiveni Rokoro outlined where the team’s level of preparation had reached and how they would progress onward to New Caledonia.

Rokoro added once a finalised team was selected, players would get down to business in preparing themselves for the regional meet.

Fiji is expected to send two teams for the tournament and Rokoro provided an insight into how vital of an outing it will be for the national women’s teams.

“They (Cricket France) have sent out invitations to the Pacific, so there are four nations that will be participating — Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu including the French women’s team,” he explained.

“This is may be France’s opportunity to promote cricket in the Pacific, because France is part of European cricket so this is an opportunity for them to support women’s cricket in the Pacific.”

Meanwhile, the parent body’s partnership with SportsWorld continues once more since a memorandum of understanding was signed two years ago.
