Fiji will receive its next shipment of passports in May, this year.
As a result, the Ministry of Immigration will issue ordinary passports on a limited basis.
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary Lesi Korovavala said they have continued to monitor the stock of passports while awaiting the next shipment.
“To ensure continuity in service delivery, commencing February 2025, the issuance of ordinary passports will be limited to individuals with urgent travel needs and these reasons need to be supported with documentary evidence,” he said.
“These includes medical emergencies, employment opportunities, education purposes, Fiji citizens holding PR status and official engagements.
“Fiji citizens travelling to regional countries, including New Zealand for reasons not covered under these categories will be required to obtains a Certificate of Identity.
“The Ministry of Immigration requests your understanding as we await the receipt of the replenishment of blank passport books in May. The Ministry aplogises unreservedly for the inconvenience that this situation may have caused.”
