CAKAUDROVE high chief Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has urged the people of Nasavusavu not to leave the chiefly seat of the Tui Nasavusavu vacant for too long.
Delivering his eulogy at the funeral of the late Tui Nasavusavu, Ratu Suliano Naulumatua yesterday, Ratu Naiqama said leadership titles needed to be taken up for the sake of the people.
Ratu Naiqama told those who attended the funeral at St Theresa’s chapel at Nukubalavu Village that people needed leaders so they could have a sense of direction and unity.
He said vacant chiefly titles only meant there was doubt and chaos among the people and could only be derived from the fact that people were not sure of what actions to take.
He called on the people of Nasavusavu to establish themselves and choose a suitable leader to lead them as soon as possible.
Ratu Naiqama said the late Tui Nasavusavu was a person who never faltered to let his decision and opinion known.
He urged the successor of the late chief to seek for his aid and the elders of Cakaudrove if he needed assistance.
He said the vanua of Lalagavesi was ready to advise and guide the chiefly family of Nasavusavu on the issue of the successor of the late chief.
Meanwhile, a close member of the chiefly household of Bolatagane, Albert Mclaren, said the traditional kingmakers clan would sit to appoint the next successor after all funerary protocols of the late chief was completed. He said following the burial of the late chief yesterday, certain waters in the Nasavusavu area would be declared as tabu areas.
