Fijian flair will be infused into the Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies women’s team as 2020 Olympics bronze medallist Ana Naimasi has been named in the side for this year’s Super Rugby Women’s championship.
Naimasi’s inclusion was revealed in a statement by the team on their website, welcoming the utility back after reports of her training with the team surfaced earlier this month.
Her naming in the squad along with other players was not an easy task for the team’s coaching panel, as head coach Andy Friend explained.
“It’s been a tricky process because we’ve had a lot of dedicated and talented young women who have unfortunately missed out, it’s never easy but to land on this squad is a positive step for the season ahead,” said Friend.
Naimasi’s new stint with the Brumbies is another feather added to her illustrious cap of sporting forays in cricket, netball and eventually rugby union.
She was part of the Fiji women’s cricket team to Vanuatu for the Tri-Series in 2011 and 2012, and then onto netball from 2013-2014 where she represented as an under-19 player for the Trans-Tasman Series in New Zealand and then Fiji A.
The Galoa, Serua native switched from serving on the netball court to making off-loads on the rugby pitch when she debuted for the Fijiana at the Dubai 7s in 2017 until she was named in the Fijiana 7s Olympic squad to Japan.
Meanwhile, the ACT Brumbies are fourth on the Super Rugby Women’s ladder with 10 points.
