Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will front up before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission pledging to tell the truth.

In an interview with this newspaper, Mr Rabuka expressed his commitment to participating in the commission’s proceedings, stating, “I will swear to say everything the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”

He further emphasised that he would provide an honest account of his experiences and actions.

When questioned about whether people should trust his version of the truth, the Prime Minister responded, “How do you know that what you think is the truth and what I say is not the truth? Hear me out and make your own opinion.”

Mr Rabuka acknowledged that his appearance before the commission would not only be a chance to share his side but also a personal step toward peace of mind.

“I want to continue to live with a clear conscience,” he said.

“I want people to know that at least they understand why I did it. Too many people are blaming, too many people blame me, and my family is suffering. My village is suffering. So, I want people to know, and at least they themselves, who are very close to me, can say, right now we understand why you did it, but it’s still wrong, and we have suffered that we forgive you or we don’t forgive you.

“I will tell what I know is the truth,” Rabuka added.

“It’s not just about my truth, it’s about the truth we all need to face as a nation.”
