Rachna Nath takes her oath this morning – SUPPLIED

Former Fiji Television Limited journalist, Rachna Nath has been appointed as Commissioner of the Fiji Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

She is a human rights advisor, strategic communications specialist, journalist and community leader.

The TRC states Ms Nath is skilled and recognised as an expert in strategic communications, stakeholder management, media management, documentary production, scriptwriting, and digital and social media.

“Commissioner Nath has conducted human rights advisory through advocacy-led behavioural campaigns and petitions and drafted research reports and submissions on critical human rights issues, including the national inquiry on the Pacific diaspora in Aotearoa, New Zealand,” said TRC.

“She is a respected leader in strategic communications planning, internal communications design, and contractor management.”

The TRC adds Ms Nath knows central government functions and comes with a proven ability to influence and effect transformational change through advocacy and campaign strategy development.

“She has produced films, documentaries, and television series as feature programming across 29 countries in Fiji and the Pacific. A major highlight of her career was the production of a climate change film for COP 21 through a European Union-funded project that premiered in the presence of former UN Secretary-General Ban-Ki-Moon.”

Commissioner Nath holds a BA in Journalism and Politics, a Post Grad Diploma in International Affairs and International Relations and Diplomacy (both from the University of the South Pacific), and an MSc in Human Rights and Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
