THE Fiji Meteorological Service has warned of more rain this week.

Forecaster Anjali Singh said a trough of low pressure would affect the Fiji group this weekend as it approaches the group from the southwest.

“We will be expecting showers, mostly over the Northern Division, Eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu,” Mr Singh said.

“For the Western Division, it will be partly cloudy in the morning but in the afternoon, thunderstorms are expected with showers.

“At the weekend, over the central parts of Viti Levu, the eastern parts of Fiji, expect occasional rain and a few thunderstorms, and, with that, you can also expect isolated heavy falls, which can also lead to flash flooding of low-lying areas.”

Ms Singh said the eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu and the Central Division should expect showers this weekend.

“So, on the weekend, it will be more intense and more severe. You’ll be expecting more rain.”

Ms Singh said maritime areas could expect easterly winds of up to 15 to 20 knots with poor visibility.

“This is because of the north-easterly wind flow we’re getting right now, but from tomorrow, we expect easterly winds to kick in.

“The environment is very moist now, the dew points and temperatures are as high as 26 degrees and above for now, so warm and humid conditions are expected.”

Ms Singh said other parts of Fiji would be cloudy and should expect thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.
