A national squad for the Four Nations T20 cricket tournament will be put together following the conclusion of the 2024/2025 Suva Women’s T20 League competition and when the female cricketers meet with their Nadi counterparts.
Speaking during the fourth round of round robin contests at Albert Park recently, Cricket Fiji president Sitiveni Rokoro indicated the competition’s progress towards fielding a team for national duties.
“This league is a build up as well to select the national team that will play in the inaugural Four Nations tournament which will be hosted by Cricket France in New Caledonia,” Rokoro explained.
While Cricket France hosted the event, it would take place in New Caledonia since it was French territory.
Meanwhile, Rokoro stated it would be difficult to select a team for their outing following the ongoing T20 matches in Suva and Nadi.
“So they will be challenging the senior women for a place in this team to New Caledonia,” he said.
“We have a national women’s (team) that played last year, but they will be challenged.”
“Last year also saw the (nation’s) first participation in the under-19 women’s (category) (and) they participated in the Asia Pacific World Cup qualifier in Bali, Indonesia in May last year.”
The Four Nations tournament in New Caledonia is expected to take place from March 9-15 and Fiji is set to bat against Japan and Papua New Guinea.
