THE Senivalati Vunibola Nakorosule Invitational 7s tournament was in full swing at the Nakorosule District School grounds in Naitasiri on Friday.
The one-day tournament, which is named after the former 7s player who debuted at the Gold Coast Sevens in 2011 as the oldest player in the World Sevens Series at the time, was also present at the event.
Vunibola expressed his appreciation for the running of the event and voiced his optimism for the development of players taking part in the tournament.
“I would like to thank all the players that are here this afternoon as the youths work hard to attain a bigger and better result,” Vunibola stated.
He noted the tournament being named after him due to his prowess in the sporting arena.
“The sponsors decided to name the tournament after me due to the places I’ve excelled in,” he said.
“For most of these players, this is probably the first time they have ever seen me as well.”
The president of the Kaite Rugby Club, Erami Raileqe who worked with the organising committee to put together the tournament said they were happy to have him and recalled how he followed Vunibola religiously when he was a player.
