12 teams to battle for women’s title

Twelve women’s teams will battle for the Na-Iri trophy at the 2025 McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast 7s in Sigatoka next week.

An electrifying Shangri-La Yanuca Island women’s division is expected to light up the three-day tournament especially with the inclusion of the New Zealand women’s 7s team.

“NZ Women’s 7s team who will be hot favourites to claim the title in 2025. They will face stiff competition from the Mt Masada (Fijiana 7s) team who will be wanting to make a statement after some difficult outings,” tournament founder Jay Whyte said.

The Drua women’s 7s team is expected to add another level of flair to the tournament.

“We believe they (Drua 7s) will be a tough side to beat and will add another exciting dimension to the tournament,” he added.

NZ 7s, Mt Masada and Drua are joined by Pacific Nomads, Lilian Amazon, Ezers Women’s, Tagimoucia Ranadi, Bilo Bar Aflame Women’s, Seahawks, Lava City Women’s Rugby- Savusavu, Tuva Rugby and Kadavu women’s team.

“This year’s event excites me as this really enables the best of Fiji to test themselves against the best from around the world. The tournament is well known in the global rugby fraternity as is evidenced by the huge audience we see through our social media channels and engagements,” Whyte said.

Matakesi from New Zealand won the 2024 women’s title.

Mt Masada which is the shadow Fijiana 7s team were runners-up.
