Namaka Public School is taking massive strides toward becoming a hub for both local and international sports by launching a transformative 10-year master plan.
Head teacher Arvin Kumar shared the school’s vision, talking on its focus on sports infrastructure development and fostering community partnerships to strengthen ties with stakeholders.
As part of its community engagement efforts, Namaka Public School will host two major tournaments this month. On January 17-18, the school grounds will welcome the Namaka Volleyball tournament, followed by the Namaka 7s rugby competition on January 24-25.
Kumar highlighted the importance of these events in building connections.
“The school management board, old scholars, and students firmly believe that hosting such tournaments will bring the community closer to the school. This is the way forward for us, and these events will undoubtedly assist the school,” he stated.
A cornerstone of the school’s master plan is its upgraded international-sized play field. With an investment of nearly $6,000, the field now meets international standards, making it suitable for both local and international teams.
“Our target is not just local teams but also international teams who can use our facilities when they come to play in Fiji. As a school, we are committed to assisting the community and providing top-tier facilities for all sports,” Kumar said.
Plans are also underway to construct separate washrooms and changing facilities adjacent to the field.
“This initiative aims to minimize disruptions during school hours while providing athletes with a dedicated space.”
