ANZ Fiji has issued a reminder to its customers in the Pacific to be vigilant against scammers who take advantage of this busy time of year.

ANZ Fiji country head Rabih Yazbek said these periods would be prime opportunities for scammers to target everything from parcel deliveries to holiday bookings.

“Scammers often exploit busy periods like Christmas and New Year, hoping to take advantage of individuals who are preoccupied at this time of year,” Mr Yazbek said.

“We encourage customers to trust their instincts before giving out their details, clicking on unknown links, or making any online purchases.”

He said the bank was focused on how to improve customers’ knowledge of scams and fraud so that they’re set up to protect themselves and their loved ones.

This included hosting ANZ’s head of Information Security, Eli Hirschauge, in the Pacific earlier this year to discuss developments in cyber risk and fraud prevention.

The awareness sessions were held with customers, Government departments, the Reserve Bank of Fiji and local news media.

“It’s crucial to stay informed about the latest scam tactics. Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and awareness is our best defence,” Mr Yazbek said.

“We advise customers to regularly monitor their bank statements or banking apps and report any suspicious activity immediately.

Quick action can prevent potential losses.

“Remember, ANZ will never ask for your personal information via email or text message. If something feels off, it probably is.”
