THE Fiji Finals date for 2025 has once again clashed with a Super Rugby Pacific game scheduled for Suva in May.
The Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association and the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua are working together to determine a solution for this.
Drua had announced its home games for the 2025 season on September 30, 2024, while the Ministry of Education announced this year’s school terms a week later, on October 8.
The annual Coca-Cola Games is traditionally held on the first week of May, coinciding with the break of the first school term.
The first term school break for 2025 is scheduled for May 2.
This means the final day (May 3) of the Fiji Finals will clash with the Fijian Drua v Reds clash at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
“We are actively talking with the Fiji Secondary School Athletics Association and the Fiji Sports Council on a solution that works for everyone,” Fijian Drua general manager commercial Shane Hussein stated.
“We have had a number of good meetings and discussions and the FSSAA has a number of options on the table for consideration.”
One of these options is the possibility of having the Fiji Finals earlier in the week.
“We just have to agree on a few other things before we could finalise that information. We should be reaching this conclusion maybe in the first week of January,” Coke Games competition director Biu Colati stated.
“We spoke to the Drua, and they said that this a good opportunity for people this side to watch the game because the next one is happening on the other side of the island. We are still in talks and soon we will reach some sort of arrangement where we could entertain the two games.”
The same issue was faced in 2023 which prompted the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association to reschedule the meet from May 2-4 to April 27-29.
