Nadi based Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) now has Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy services, that can be used in the treatment of chronic wounds, burns, decompression sickness, and diabetic foot ulcers.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development & Statistics, Prof Prasad opened the facility today.
The Hyperbaric Chamber can speed up recovery and significantly reduce the need for diabetes related amputations.
“We all know that non-communicable diseases, especially diabetes, are the leading cause of premature death in Fiji,” said Prof Prasad.
“There is one amputation every 12 hours in Fiji, and we need to change that.”
“The launch of HBOT is a major step forward in improving health outcomes and reducing the need for amputations.”
Prof Prasad added the introduction of the Hyperbaric Chamber reflects Fiji’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure.
“This new service will also open up opportunities for partnerships with regional healthcare providers and attract medical tourists, positioning Fiji as a hub for advanced healthcare services.”
