PM inspects Vanua Levu road upgrade

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, alongside Fiji’s Ambassador to People’s Republic of China, Robert Lee, visited the Northern Division to review the progress of the proposed $300 million road upgrades under the Vanua Levu Road Upgrade Project.

The initiative is funded through a grant from the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) under the People’s Republic of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Mr Rabuka highlighted the importance of incorporating local input into the project to ensure that the roadworks not only enhance connectivity but also generate local employment opportunities during the construction phase.

Mr Lee expressed his satisfaction with the project, emphasizing its role in strengthening infrastructure and promoting regional growth.

He further added that upgraded roads were expected to boost key sectors such as tourism and renewable energy projects, including hydropower, while enhancing access and connectivity for rural communities.

The key segments inspected during the tour included 15 kilometer of Nabouwalu road(Bua) to Nasolo and 35 kilometers of Nabalebale to Dogoru- Wailevu West Coast road.
