Do not consume or prepare for consumption any animal carcass found in their premises immediately after flood waters have receded, the Ministry of Health & Medical Services has said.

The Ministry states any carcass is to be properly disposed of by either burning or burying.

“This is to prevent the exposure to potential disease-causing pathogens which forms when dead animals decompose and attracting scavengers, rodents and pests in particular flies and rats,” said the Ministry.

The Ministry also urges that the site of disposing of the animal carcass must be well away from any water sources to prevent any water contamination.

“Members of the public and livestock owners are also urged to wear personal protective clothing such as masks and gloves to minimize direct contact with dead animals when disposing them.”
