Justice Salesi Temo will this morning be sworn in as Fiji’s new Chief Justice by the President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at 10:00am at Government House.

The Chief Justice is appointed by the President, on the advise of the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has acknowledged Justice Temo’s steadfastness during critical periods in Fiji’s judicial history.

“In the past, during times of constitutional crisis when some judicial officers resigned from office, Justice Temo remained in his post, determined to keep the courts functioning. For that he must receive some credit,” said Mr Rabuka,

“Justice Temo has not faced a constitutional tribunal for misconduct in office. To that extent, there is no legal barrier that would prevent him for consideration as Chief Justice.”

Justice Temo replaces late Kamal Kumar.
