Project on schedule

THE Albert Park redevelopment project is progressing well and according to schedule, says Suva City Council special administrator Chandu Umaria.

The redevelopment preparations and consultations were also in line with the set program.

The project was estimated to cost about $16million but this has increased slightly to $16.5m.

“The project budget of $16.5m is fixed and includes civil works, which cover ground upgrading as well,” he said.

“The construction works will commence in the next two to three weeks.”

He said the Albert Park ground would be a public facility, meaning it would be open for public use.

“The ground will not be in competition with the ANZ Stadium but it will supplement the demand for a quality ground especially at club level and for trainings,” he said.

While the council had approved a number of private sector development projects in the Capital City, Mr Umaria said this also reflected the increasing confidence levels of the business community in the Fijian economy.
