Local boxing sensation Mikaele Ravalaca is set for only his second fight in Australia this evening.
Ravalaca is up against Alec Kumar in the 61kg of the Big Time Boxing promotion at the Melbourne Pavilion.
The Ra lad stunned the Aussie crowd in June this year when he defeated Ziyee Lee on split decision.
Now he braces for an opponent who is treating this bout as merely a ‘warm-up’ match.
“His opponent is confident. He (Alec Kumar) said this is a warm-up match because he wants to challenge the Australian title next but in a way we can say that he is underestimating Mika,” Ravalaca’s local trainer Nesta Ranuku stated.
Ravalaca has been locked in with his preparation for this bout knowing that he is not doing this for himself but for the reputation and image of all Fiji boxers.
“He is currently ranked 472 out of 1,913 boxers in the world in his category so this fight is just as important in that sense,” Ranuku added.
With the moniker, ‘High Voltage’, Ravalaca has been under the guidance of manager Gus Wahab and Nedal ‘Skinny’ Hussein along with the support of Fresh’et.
The Big Time Boxing promotion begins at 7pm.
