OPPOSITION Member of Parliament Jone Usamate has urged the University of the South Pacific (USP) council to accept vice-chancellor Professor Pal Ahluwalia’s resignation should he offer to do so.
He also welcomed suggestions for an open and transparent investigations into the governance and running of the organisation.
“For a long time, we have talked about the things that have gone on at USP, the need for transparency to be shown in the way it had been led, the audits that need to be undertaken,” he said.
“Recently we have seen how the staff have reacted to the leadership at USP.
“For me personally, as a former student and as a person who wants to see that USP maintains its reputation and image as a place of great learning and governance, where people do the right thing, I encourage USP to accept the vice-chancellor’s offer to resign.”
He said investigations must be carried out to ensure that USP did its work well.
Mr Usamate said if there were any anomalies, people need to be taken to task.
“We need USP to function effectively and this offer, I believe, should be taken up by the USP Council.”
