The Suva Magistrate’s Court has convicted a man charged with one count of bribery.
Mohammed Shahfraaz Ali appeared this afternoon before Magistrate Jeremaia Savou for judgment.
Ali, who was the Regional Engineer Bulk for Water Authority of Fiji had without lawful authority accepted an advantage in the form of Fiji Airways return ticket to Sydney worth AUS $1430.60 which was paid on March 21, 2017, by Sphynix Solutions Pty Ltd.
The Fiji Independent Commissions Against Corruption lawyer Joshua Prasad appeared for prosecution while lawyer Joji Cakau appeared for Ali.
Magistrate Savou in his judgement ruled that prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and herewith found the accused guilty as charged.
FICAC has been directed to file and serve sentencing submissions by December 31.
While defence to file their mitigating submissions by January 21 next year.
Magistrate Savou will deliver Ali’s sentence on February 14, 2025.
