Government will today provide an update in Parliament on the establishment of Fiji’s cannabis industry.

Opposition Member of Parliament, Rinesh Sharma has filed a question on this issue and will be asking the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications Manoa Kamikamica to inform Parliament on the outcomes of the consultations and feasibility study that was conducted for the establishment of Fiji’s cannabis industry.

In February this year, Cabinet approved the Policy Framework to establish the medicinal cannabis industry in Fiji.

A taskforce was formed in August 2023 to carry out national and community consultations on the proposal.

The Taskforce had received 513 submissions.
