The water problem in Khalsa Rd, Nasinu, has escalated to a point where residents skip showers to save water for cooking and drinking.
Residents of Nukuboco Settlement claimed they have not received even a drop of water in their tap for the past seven days.
They said the rainfall last week was a blessing as they managed to take proper showers.
Emori Nukuta, 62, and his wife Maraia Wati, 60, said to save water for cooking and drinking, they had to miss showers on some days.
“There are seven people living in our home and we have to ensure that there is enough water for cooking and drinking,” Ms Wati said.
“Apart from missing showers, we are not able to wash our clothes,” she said.
Ema Canitabua, 32, a mother of three with a three-month-old infant, said water was the biggest problem for them in the area.
“Water problem in our area escalated in the last two years,” Ms Canitabua said.
“I have three small children and it becomes very difficult for us when there is no water in the house.
“Lucky, we had rain last week and in the weekend. We could fill all our buckets and managed to do washing and cleaning.”
Prakash Wati, 65, also expressed similar concerns.
“It’s very sad for us that we are having (water) cuts continuously,” Ms Wati said.
“There is no water in our taps — for the past seven days.
“Water trucks do come to supply us (water) for drinking and cooking, but how about our washing and cleaning?
“This the worst experience for all of us in the area. In the last two years, water problem has gone very bad and there is no sign that it’s going to be resolved.
“There were lots of promises made by the authorities to improve the water supply here, but nothing constructive had been done.”
The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) said they were working to maximise water production at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant following improved weather conditions.
“These favourable changes have enhanced both raw water quality and treatment capabilities, enabling us to focus on increasing water supply across the system,” a statement from WAF stated.
“To further support recovery efforts, we will continue strategic valve operations overnight. This critical step is designed to help restore reservoir levels and improve water supply for tomorrow morning.
“We would like to remind customers that these measures depend on continued good weather. Any significant rainfall could affect raw water turbidity and, subsequently, our treatment processes.
“We understand the challenges our customers face during such disruptions, and we deeply appreciate your patience and support.
“Please know that our teams are fully committed to restoring consistent and reliable water services as quickly as possible.”
