THE Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has objected to bail for a 40-year-old man accused of causing the death of an elderly man earlier this month.
Netani Toma made his first appearance before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe at the High Court in Suva yesterday on a count of murder.
Mr Toma is alleged to have assaulted the 70-year-old after hearing rumours that the elderly man was practising witchcraft.
The man was admitted to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where he later died.
The filing and furnishing of information and disclosures are due before the next court proceedings.
Mr Toma has been remanded in custody and the case adjourned to December 12.
