ABOUT 55 chiefly traditional titles remain vacant in Macuata, with 415 positions having been successfully filled.

iTaukei Affairs Minister Ifereimi Vasu told the Macuata Provincial Council meeting at Sasa Village yesterday that the increase in the number of positions that had been filled was a result of the concerted effort by his ministry and the Native Lands Commission.

“Through these visits, we were able to reach out to villages and identify those who were eligible and willing to take on these important roles,” Mr Vasu said.

He said their visits involved consulting local communities and ensuring the rightful individuals were selected for the traditional positions.

“By working closely with the community, we were able to identify suitable leaders committed to upholding the values and traditions of their villages,” the minister added.

“We remain focused on filling the remaining titles and will continue our engagement with the villages to ensure a fair and transparent process.”
