CARPENTERS Fiji Managing Director, Daniel Whippy is still awaiting his visa to travel to USA, the Suva Magistrates Court heard today.
Mr Whippy is currently seeking the variation of bail for the purposes of traveling to the United States for a stem cell procedure.
Presently, his lawyer Suruj Sharma said his client’s visa application has been lodged, however, due to backlog the dates for appointment have been pushed back.
Mr Sharma said the best option right now is to get an in-person appointment on November 26 at 8am.
He said the visa application, flight details and other paramount information will be ready to be furnished by the end of this month.
Mr Whippy is charged alongside co-accused, former National Fire Authority CEO John O’Connor, who faces a charge of abuse of office.
The pair are alleged to have amended the findings of investigations into an MH warehouse fire in April 2018.
Mr O’Connor is accused of directing NFA officers to amend the findings of the authority’s investigation report into the fire at Walu Bay “for purposes of gain”, while Mr Whippy is alleged to have counselled Mr O’Connor to commit the offence.
The case is adjourned to November 29.
