Fiji Airways national 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau is confident of his team’s chances in the HSBC SVNS 2024/2025 first leg in Dubai and Cape Town.
Kolinisau said this following the Fiji Airways Fiji Blue side’s Cup final victory over Taikita Brothers at the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s which ended yesterday at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
“The goal is always to win every tournament we compete in and with these group of boys, I am confident of our chances,” he said.
Kolinisau said the intention was to also win the 2024/2025 SVNS Series.
“Our goal is to win the series and we want to make sure we come out on top.
“I am confident in the boys we got now and the work all season the team has put on.”
He highlighted nobody was guaranteed a spot in the national side with the abundance of talent they had.
“We are talking about Fiji here and there is always talent that will throw up from nowhere.
“We are always going to keep a look out and we are not shutting the door and we have told the boys that no one is guaranteed a spot.”
Kolinisau said they had named the squad for the first leg of the series which will be released later today.
“We have our team selected and I think it is going to be released on the Fiji Rugby 7s page.
“We have niggling injuries to Joseva Talacolo and Waisea Nacuqu and they have not been considered for selection in this round of the series.”
Fiji 7s men’s side last won the HSBC SVNS series in 2019, beating New Zealand in the Paris 7s Cup final and overall has won four series title.
The side has won the Dubai 7s twice, last winning it in 2015.
