The crushing season at the Labasa Suga Mill ended on Monday.

But there was no official program to mark the closure of another season or to announce the number of tonnes of cane processed by the mill as was the practice before.

According to a Fiji Sugar Corporation official, a press release would be sent out later in the week on the total cane tonnage processed by its three mills.

Minister for Sugar Charan Jeath Singh said Labasa performed better than the two sugar mills in the Western Division.

“The initial projection of cane crushed was 547,000 tonnes,” said Mr Singh, adding the mill had surpassed its target.

“The mill could crush more cane compared to last year.”

The minister said he would be able to release the crush data later in the week.
