A BREATH of new life through the inclusion of young talent has been inhaled into the Fiji Airways men’s sevens team, as they prepare for the upcoming season of the HSBC Sevens World Series, with a training session at the High-Performance unit gym in Laucala Bay, Suva yesterday.
Head coach Osea Kolinisau says he has brought in new players who have played in local rugby competitions and he plans to monitor their progress in camp as well.
“There’s a lot of youngsters who are around 20-21 years old and I wanted to bring them to see how they do in camp,” Kolinisau said.
“A lot of them have been playing sevens, one of them has been playing in the Skipper Cup so I wanted to mix it up a bit and see how they do against the guys that have been contracted.”
Kolinisau mentioned their integration into camp with the other members went well, with the players adapting rapidly to the pace of training and life within camp despite initial challenges faced.
“They are adapting really well, I think it was a bit of shock last week just on some off-field standards because when you come in here, it’s not only about on-field but your standard off-field as well,” he emphasised.
“I think last week, it was just them (the players) getting used to the way we do things around camp.”
Meanwhile, coach Kolinisau expects to name the final national squad early next month.
