THE Tebara FANCA Nations Muslim World Cup Championship 2024 is set to begin from tomorrow at Lautoka’s Churchill Park.

A total of five nations – Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and United States would compete in the World Cup which would conclude on Sunday.

Fiji Muslim Sports Association president Javed Ahmed said the biannual event which will be played for five days will consist Under-17, Premier, Veterans, Masters and Legends category.

“All the five nations have come down to compete in the FANCA Nations World Cup,” he said.

“The last version was held in Nadi in 2022, in which the Fiji FANCA Premier team was crowned as the winners.”

Ahmed said he was also the national president for the Fiji FANCA team and was aware of the tough challenge from all the other teams.

“For us it is important to defend our title. We won in 2022 but this year, it will be hard to defend our title as teams will be gunning for us but we have some very experienced players such as Zibraaz Sahib, William Valentine, Nabil Begg in the squad and we are looking forward for a good tournament.”

He said apart from other sports such as golf and volleyball, they have included netball competition for the ladies as well.

“He said all the teams would be playing for prestige and pride for competing in the FANCA competition.”

Fiji FANCA Premier management team includes Javed Ahmed, Mohammed Mohin Rafiq, Mohammed Riyaz, M. Zeyaad Hussain, Mohammed Shamil, Abdul Nahid Khan, Mohammed Asif Khan, Varoon Karan and Abdul Kadar.
