Amit Kumar from Taveuni, who tipped the scale at 76.3kg during the official weigh-in yesterday at Nair Dias for the South Pacific Boxing Promotion (SPBP) event today said he was going to give his best for the event.
His opponent, Mikaele Marisi of Lautoka Happy Gloves boxing club, tipped the scale at 75.2 kg during the weigh-in.
Kumar who last fought in 2004 said despite making a comeback after 20 years, he was ready for the 4×3 event.
“I am preparing for one month now and my body feels great, and I will give my best shot,” he said.
South Pacific Boxing Promotion director Mohammed Shameem said this was a good opportunity for local boxers to show their talent.
“We have brought in three IBO sanctioned fights, something like this has never happened in Fiji and we want to keep supporting local boxers.”
Shameem said if everything went well, he was planning for a bigger event in May next year.
In other fights on the night, Jnr Abhay Chand will take on Vitori Cabalevu in a 6×3 contest while in the 4×3 contest, Apisai Naciqa will fight Marika Kavika, Manoa Tuiyaro will take on Ezra Volavola and Amo Wati will fight Maureen Neumia in the only 4×2 female bout.
