The Fiji Bitter Malake 7s kicked off yesterday for its third edition, with 64 teams converging at Narauyaba Ground in Rakiraki for three days of intense rugby action.
According to tournament president, Isoa Tute, the event aims to support both rugby and the development of Malake Village.
“We have 32 men’s teams, 24 under-21 teams, and 8 women’s teams, all coming from different parts of Fiji, including Ra.
“The tournament not only highlights the talents of the Malake Village team but also serves as a major fundraising event for local projects,” Tute said.
Two-thirds of the funds raised will go towards village development, with the remaining one-third supporting the Malake 7s team’s participation in other local tournaments.
“Our main projects are the renovation of the church and the construction of a gym for the village,” Tute added.
The Malake 7s committee is committed to a five-year fundraising plan, ensuring that the tournament continues to support both rugby and the betterment of the community.
