Talei Holmes, the captain of the Fiji Bulikula side, will lead her side onto the field this weekend, after being cleared by medical officials, following a neck injury she sustained in August this year.
Holmes, who played for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in the NRLW in Australia last season, sustained the serious injury in the grand final against the Newcastle Knights and was taken off the field on a stretcher for further medical evaluation.
Two months since the setback, she is now leading the Fiji Bulikula side in the Pacific Championship and revealed yesterday she had been given the green light by doctors for participation.
“My body’s just recovered and I’m feeling fresh and ready to go. It was good to get a few weeks off, but I’m ready to go now,” Holmes said.
“I had the neck and then the shoulder but I have been cleared, no serious injuries.”
With doctors approving her for the field, Holmes said she was excited to play in Fiji for the first time and regarded her short stint here as a very special one.
“It’s amazing, even when seeing the young kids around Fiji just waving when we’re in the buses and it just means so much to me seeing all the younger generation coming through,” she added.
Meanwhile, Holmes has represented Fiji in two previous outings as well. The Bulikula take on Cook Islands at the HFC Bank Stadium at 6pm on Saturday.
The Vodafone Fiji Bati will then face the Cooks at 8.10pm.
