The Aviva Sabeto Horse Race brought a wave of excitement to Sabeto yesterday as farmers from the Western Division gathered for a thrilling day of racing to celebrate Fiji Day.
Aviva Event Organiser Vatimi Rayalu said the event was designed to unite the community and give farmers a chance to take a break from their daily routines, enjoy the festivities.
“We targeted 50 horses.
“This event was thought of something to bring together farmers from Western division, something to get out of the house and relax and gather them together,” Rayalu said.
With horses and spectators alike coming from across Sabeto, the event was a lively celebration filled with competitive spirit and fun for all ages.
With a target of 50 horses, the event drew significant participation. The day featured a variety of race categories, with the main event being a challenging 1-mile (2300m) race. Shorter distances were also included, such as the 30 chain (600m), 40 chain (800m), and 50 chain (1300m) races, catering to horses of different strengths and allowing for a competitive spirit to thrive throughout the day.
Several horses performed exceptionally well, with standouts including Kanja, Ali Boy, Jur Rambo, Stricker, Almondo, Warrior Prince, Blacko, and Ride.
