The multi-million-dollar Air Laucala hangar has officially opened for business at Nadi International Airport.

Dubbed one of Fiji’s most advanced hangars, the state-of-the-art facility will cater for high-end visitors travelling to Laucala Island Resort for holiday.

Officiating at the inauguration on Monday, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said the Government was deeply appreciative of this significant private investment, adding the facility was top notch and of international standard.

“This state-of-the-art facility is not just a testament to our commitment to advancing our aviation capabilities and distinguished guest services, but is also a symbol of our nation’s progress and innovation,” Mr Rabuka said.

The PM said the hangar represented the Government’s vision for a future in which Fiji would maintain its position at the forefront of aviation excellence in the Pacific.

“This facility will enhance our ability to maintain and service aircraft, ensuring that our aviation operations are safe, efficient and reliable,” he said.

“Moreover, this hangar will create numerous job opportunities for our people, fostering economic growth and development. It will also serve for training and skills development, empowering our workforce with the knowledge and expertise needed to excel in the aviation industry.”

Speaking on behalf of the owner, Laucala Island Resort and Air Laucala director Kevin Abramowicz said the project was the initial idea and vision of the late Dietrich Mateschitz, the resort owner.

Mr Abramowicz said the establishment of the facility would ensure a seamless transit, whether from international carriers or private jets into Air Laucala’s aircraft.

“Apart from reducing transit times and providing utmost comfort to visitors in the lounge, the hangar has been built to provide space and excellent working conditions to our Air Laucala fleet management and team, in proximity to industry experts at Nadi International Airport,” Mr Abramowicz said.

“Our owner Mark Mateschitz remains committed to Fiji and is very passionate about continuing his father’s legacy in developing the North and Fiji.”

A statement from the Prime Minister’s office said the private investment was a testament to a shared commitment and partnership between the resort owner, the Government and landowners in delivering exceptional guest services and in achieving national development goals.
