Families, friends and colleagues from the media fraternity bid farewell to The Fiji Times former senior sports journalist Zanzeer Singh at the Girmit Multicultural Centre in Lautoka yesterday.

Heartfelt eulogies delivered yesterday summed up a life fulfilled with love and purpose for the 49-year-old father-of-two.

Former Fiji Times sports journalist Ana Niumataiwalu and a close friend of Mr Singh, who was fondly known as “Zan”, said he was larger than life.

“He was a good friend not only in the newsroom,” she said.

Niumataiwalu added that she came to see Zan when sickness started to get to him.

“Our last conversation was ‘I will see you when I get back’,” she said.

Fiji Sun West editor Waisea Nasokia said apart from being a very close friend, he looked up to Zan, who was a brilliant reporter and had earned a lot of respect during his time in the media.

“He was always straight forward and he was a great wordsmith. I grew up reading his byline in the newspaper and I have learnt lot of things from him.”

Nasokia added that Zan had a big heart and made sure he shared whatever he had with everyone.

“All in all, he was a great man and a legend in his own right.

“I thank his family for looking after him, he was a resilient man.”

Mr Singh worked at The Fiji Times for 20 years.

He was cremated at Lovu Cemetery yesterday.
