EDUCATION Minister Aseri Radrodro says children accessing dark websites are destroying their lives and those of their families.
In his address to the 41st Fiji Head Teachers Association’s conference in Nadi yesterday, Mr Radrodro referred to a Fiji Times report on drug abuse and of allegations of children engrossed in the dark web.
“Accessing websites that are certain to destroy their lives and those of their families,” he said.
“As your Education Minister, I ask you, I challenge you – are you doing what you should be doing to be a great teacher?
“Are you leading the charge in vigilant monitoring, visiting your families, your communities, working with our partners across government and non-government to show our people and our children that you are concerned and that we must work together and go beyond our classroom walls to teach and save our children from the many negative ills that are all around us?
“Are you being a great teacher? A great leader? A great head of school?”
The minister said a great teacher had credentials and knowledge and was a critical thinker.
“And all other faculties of intelligence are important. However, a great teacher should be much more than credentials, experience and intelligence.
“You must go beyond the classroom walls, you must have values and an attitude that attracts the student to learn with you and prosper.”
