MAHATMA Gandhi Memorial High School survived a late scare from Queen Victoria School in their Vodafone Super Deans under-14 quarter-final clash.

Despite two tries to QVS in the late stages of the match, MGM held on to win 18-15 in a match that had the vocal crowd talking from the start to the final whistle.

MGM now marches on to the semi-finals next weekend as they brace to face either Lelean Memorial School, Ratu Kadavulevu School or Marist Brothers High School.

“Going into the semis, same process that we were doing, we will train everyday, work harder. As we go up we know it’s going to get more tougher but we will improve,” team manager Miriama Lutubulo stated.

Leading 15-3 at halftime, MGM’s only points in the second spell came from a penalty.

“It was very nerve wrecking but we trusted out boys, we trusted that they could hold the fort and they did, we are so proud of them.

“The driving factor has always been them playing for themselves, their families, school and friends. When they see their parents coming out, it’s a driving factor for them,” she added.
