There’s a lot of learning happening in the FIJI Water Flying Fijians camp as the younger players grasp the ropes of being a professional athlete.

The squad sees a mixture of Fijian Drua (Super Rugby) and Northern Hemisphere players pursuing one goal in the international Test environment.

Head coach Mick Byrne said this was a good opportunity for the younger players to experience and understand what it was like to be on tour and the commitment it required.

“They get to see some of the professional players from the Northern Hemisphere and it rubs off on them, what do they do, the extras they do, after training they’re doing their recovery, before training their are doing their prehab and getting the work done,” Byrne stated.

It comes down to the individual player to absorb a great deal which can only auger well for their personal development in the game.

“They take their notes, do their role and learn stuff and all the young players will say that’s what I need to do so it’s been a good experience for them,” the head coach added.

The team had their first training run in Mission Valley, San Diego, USA on Tuesday ahead of the Test against the All Blacks on Saturday, 3.30pm at Snapdragon Stadium.

There are no injuries in the team so far while flyhalf Caleb Muntz is back in training and is tracking well.
