Boxing Commission of Fiji (BFC) chairman Adi Narayan has given his word that boxer Mika Ravalaca will be given the chance to contest for the 61kg title after the South Pacific Boxing Promotion’s (SPBP) Rumble in Labasa next month.
This followed when BCF chairman and SPBP promoter Fredy Chand were questioned during a media conference if Ravalaca was approached for the 61kg vacant title bout.
The 61kg title will be contested by Ubayd Haider and Saimoni Ratu in the August 10 promotion in Labasa, however, Ravalaca is the top contender in that weight category.
Chand admitted during the media conference that Ravalaca was not approached for this promotion.
In saying so, Narayan stepped in with what he labelled as “correcting the wrongs of the past” to address this issue.
“The 61kg title that is being contested in Labasa, the winner of that BCF will make it mandatory to defend against Ravalaca,” Narayan said.
Boxing fans have long called for a fight between Haider and Ravalaca.
Haider has also openly challenged the Ra lad, but nothing has eventuated since.
Ravalaca is currently in Australia fighting to improve his ranking.
