A boxer must justify the reasons for demanding for a large purse when it comes to a championship fight.
The Boxing Commission of Fiji has set a minimum purse of $2000 for a championship fight.
Chairman Adi Narayan said the BCF was also open to negotiations to demands higher than what promoters offer.
The BCF has taken this step after concerns were raised about boxers asking for $7000 to $8000 for a fight.
“What we have done is we don’t want to dictate boxer purse and what we have given here is a minimum boxer purse for a championship fight starting from $2000,” Narayan said.
He said the BCF had the powers to influence a boxer purse, but they were opening the door for negotiations to happen.
“I have told the promoters if you have two good boxers and one of them is refusing to sign because of purse then we are going to have a talk with the boxer, manager and the promoter.
“We will sit, and they will talk to us to justify their demand for the dollars that they are asking, and we will come to a settlement.
“We have powers but we are trying to negotiate and if a boxer is worth that much then they need to prove to us why.
“If you don’t justify, then the hanger will come down,” Narayan said.
