Fiji will acquire 14 Protected Mobility Vehicles (PMVs) from Australia.

This was determined after a Cabinet sitting this week approved the execution of a memorandum of sale with the Australian Government for this purpose.

In a statement, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said the acquisition would support the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) during their deployment on United Nations peacekeeping missions.

“The UN requires Troop Contributing Countries to bring their own equipment and mobility support (such as PMVs) to meet the standards required for deployment to UN peacekeeping missions,” he said.

“The acquisition of PMVs will enhance Fiji’s ability to participate in global peacekeeping.”

Mr Rabuka said PMVs provided increased protection for troops deployed in hazardous environments and significantly mitigated the risk of injury and loss of life.
