ALMOST one month after coming into service, the RFNS Puamau has run aground on the Fulaga Reef in the Lau waters.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka had commissioned the patrol boat on May 18.
Fiji Navy last night confirmed the grounding of RFNS Puamau that was midway through a two-week patrol tasking.
“Our utmost priority is the safety and welfare of all crew onboard and safely recovering the vessel,” said Fiji Navy.
“A crisis management team has been assembled to oversee the situation, with emergency support crews en route and secondary support arrangements underway in collaboration with our partners.”
Fiji Navy said the focus remains on ensuring the safety of personnel and the recovery of the vessel.
