AROUND 100 participants took part in the Foundation for the Education of Needy Children (FENC) walkathon held in Lautoka on Saturday.

Deputy Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka also took part in the event, as participants made their way from Shirley Park to Natabua High School on foot.

“As a voluntary, non-political, and non-profit organization, FENC has become a beacon of hope for those most in need,” said Mr Gavoka.

He added that FENC merits recognition for its outstanding efforts towards the needy children of this country.

“It’s mission is straightforward: to support Fiji’s poorest individuals who face significant challenges and often find themselves marginalised, struggling against adversity.

“You (FENC) have tirelessly provided educational and related support to the children of the poorest families.”

Mr Gavoka told participants that their presence for the event was more than just attendance.

“It is a demonstration of our mutual dedication to uplifting the most vulnerable in our society.

“In this digital age, knowledge holds immense power and FENC, in collaboration with the Coalition Government, is actively exploring avenues to enhance digital learning capabilities within our communities.”
