Cultural Heritage Fiji is gearing up to make a vibrant and culturally rich presence at the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture (FestPAC) in Honolulu, Hawaii.
With about 100 delegates representing various facets of Fiji’s heritage art and culture sectors, the delegation is poised to showcase the nation’s diverse cultural tapestry on an international stage.
Led by director of Fiji Arts Council, Maciusela Raitaukala, the Fiji delegation comprises individuals from eight distinct clusters encompassing traditional and contemporary art forms.
From traditional meke groups and contemporary dance troupes to fashion designers, weavers, carvers, visual artists, storytellers, traditional navigators, and dramatists, Fiji’s representation spans a wide spectrum of artistic expressions.
The theme for this year’s festival, “Ho’oulu Lahui: Regenerating Oceania”, resonates deeply with Fiji’s cultural heritage and ethos. Seven delegates from the Fijian Media association (FMA) will be among the 100 plus people who will be flying out to Honolulu.
FMA president Rosi Tamani Doviverata, has encouraged the journalists to make use of this opportunity and experience for character development, particularly emphasising on bonding and strengthening journalistic unity.
The Fiji Times Editor in Chief Fred Wesley said the association was of the view that coverage was “something we need to do”.
Fiji’s participation at the FestPAC not only provides an opportunity for cultural exchange and collaboration but also serves as a testament to the industry’s commitment to preserving and promoting its rich cultural heritage on the global stage.
