First for Basden College

BASDEN College is just eight years old and they have been part of the school’s athletic zone only and yesterday the school held its first ever inter-house at the ANZ Stadium.

The school is situated in Newtown in Nasinu and has a school roll of around 400.

School principal Mika Mudreilagi said the school had been able to produce some good athletes who had won at the zone and made it to the Coca-Cola Games.

“We are yet to get a medal at the Coke Games but that is something we are working on. It is achievable through hard work and dedication,” Mudreilagi said.

“Last year we had seven athletes at the school finals, a year earlier just five. That is good for us considering that the school is still new and growing.

“This is our first meet at the Stadium and it’s a historic day for the school. The teachers are hoping that this will motivate the athletes and hopefully we get our games medal.”

At the meet yesterday, Vockler House claimed overall victory with 37 gold, 18 silver and 16 bronze, Holland was second placed with 23 gold, 23 silver and 21 bronze while Bryce was third with 19 gold, 22 silver and 24 bronze.
