The Fiji Indigenous Business Council (FIBC) and similar organisations are “strongly” urged to keep updated with Government policy developments and assistance.

It was also recommended that the institution identify areas where indigenous businesses can directly engage in.

“It is through your organisation that we humbly request that policy development updates be shared down to indigenous grassroots level, so that they are well informed and have the opportunity to participate as well,” Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Prof Biman Prasad said at the FIBC FHL Workshop 24.

“I encourage your active communication and collaboration between Fiji Indigenous Business Council (FIBC) and the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs as that is the Government arm that is spearheading the iTaukei institutions reforms with the main objective of promoting indigenous participation in development.”

Mr Prasad said a key issue that should be discussed among indigenous businesses is how to grow their business in a competitive market, given that in the private sector, people are well educated and up to date with emerging issues and technology.

He added they must also discuss the use of the solesolevaki approach to teach and learn from each other in a consistent manner, “keeping in mind there are no short cuts to successful business ventures”.

The two-day FIBC FHL Workshop 24 ended last Thursday at the Harbour Point Convention Centre.
