Age is just a number, said Rokosainiana Tukana after her impressive outing in the women’s discus throw master’s event at the Oceania Athletics Championship yesterday.
At 62 years old, she secured a respectable third place with a throw of 15.65 metres, while Michelle Anthony and Noni Callander from New Zealand clinched first and second place respectively.
“The experience of competing in your own age group is nothing short of thrilling and fun, I am looking forward to taking part in the javelin and shot put events on Thursday,” said Tukana.
“Competing against athletes from Australia and New Zealand has been an incredible journey, allowing me to immerse myself in different cultures while proudly representing my own country. It’s a reminder for the younger generation not to limit themselves based on age, there are opportunities in the masters and world masters competitions where Fiji can certainly shine.”
Tukana also expressed her gratitude to the event organisers for facilitating masters’ events across various age groups.
