The Government does not decide on the rate increase for minimum wage.

This, according to Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad, who also said a new minimum wage rate will be announced on June 28.

He said the decision on the amount of increase is made through the minimum wage report.

“The report was on the public consultation conducted across Fiji,” he said.

“It will go to the employment relations board before it comes to us.”

He said they are expecting a report soon from the consultation team.

“I had announced in the last national budget that the current minimum wage rate will be reviewed and right now the consultants are working on it.”

He said the new minimum wage rate will be announced on June 28 during the announcement of the national budget.

“By how much we will announce in the budget.”
